Here are the first of some photos from various rare Forrest J Ackerman books I have been acquiring. A couple of them are from Japan where he was apparently very popular for a while because of his collection. For those unfamiliar with Ackerman, he literally coined the term’ Sci-Fi’ in 1954. The Los Angeles public library also consulted with him to help categorize science fiction and horror, before him they were mixed together. He along with James Warren created fan culture with the advent of the popular magazine Famous Monsters Of Filmland which had a huge impact an a young George Lucas & Steven Spielberg. Forrest Ackerman would open his home, which he called the ‘Ackermansion’. up to the public where he would give guided tours of his personal museum of all things sci-fi, horror & fantasy. Some 10 thousand books, hundreds of priceless original props from films & countless works of art. Sadly when he died his Smithsonian worthy collection was auctioned off. I will be doing my part to keep his collation & name alive by sharing tons of images from how archive.
